The Founders Story
Above Board started the same way a lot of great ideas do, over drinks.
We’re Nicole and Brent Slone, and like a lot of people who love good cocktails, we kept running into the same frustrating reality. No matter where we went, great restaurants, cool bars, even craft cocktail spots, almost every drink on the menu was loaded with sugar.
We loved the experience of a well-made cocktail, but we didn’t love how limited the options felt if you wanted something lighter. Most of the time the only alternative was ordering a tequila soda and calling it a night.
We figured there had to be a better way.
So we started experimenting at home. What began as a simple idea, creating great cocktail flavors without the sugar, turned into a full-blown mission. After discovering plant-based sweeteners like monkfruit and allulose, we realized we could recreate the classic liqueur flavors bartenders rely on, but without the sugar that usually comes with them.


The more we worked on it, the more obvious it became:
this wasn’t just something we wanted, it was something the cocktail world was missing.
Today, Above Board creates zero and low sugar liqueurs designed for modern cocktails. The kind that bartenders love to work with and people love to drink, whether they’re behind the bar or mixing something up at home.
Because great cocktails shouldn’t force you to compromise.
And you shouldn’t have to change how you drink, just what you pour.

Above Board was born out of necessity.

Whether we were kicking back on the patio after an ambitious day hike, sipping fireside with friends, or golfing after a demanding workweek, we wanted a better go-to cocktail.

EQUALLY AS INTERESTED IN DOING AS WE ARE DRINKING,
we wanted to rise above unimpressive, overly sweet mixers that left us feeling sluggish after just one drink.
So we set out to create something better: liqueurs that deliver bold flavor and balance while keeping sugar out of the equation.
Putting the grit in integrity, Above Board relentlessly avoids shortcuts. Sure, it’s a labor of love, but we feel obliged to provide what your lifestyle demands because it’s our way of life, too.
